Review: Need for Speed: Rivals | Stevivor

Stevivor's Nicholas Simonovski writes, "The involvement of Criterion in the Need For Speed franchise was not one without its share of criticism and scepticism from the fans. With both the release of Hot Pursuit and then Most Wanted, its debatable whether either of those two titles fit in with the previous games in the series. That said, while Criterion might have released two titles that felt more like a Burnout game with the NFS brand slapped over it, theres no denying that the contributions they made were invaluable. Reason being, while Most Wanted mightnt have been the game a lot of us were hoping for, without it, Im confident in saying that Rivals wouldnt have been as great as it now is. And let me tell you, this game is amazing."

By avoiderdragon:The Need For Speed franchise has always been a good racing series for those who think that Gran Turismo and Forza are too hardcore and console-exclusive for their taste. The titles that come out are mostly hit-or-miss, with some being hits during release while others not being very good. Theres also the Need For Speed movie coming up (as of writing), which is both exciting and facepalm-inducing at the same time. The last few titles, especially those by Criterion, were pretty good in that they got back to the original NFS Underground formula and made it better. With Need For Speed: Rivals, what we have here is the further refining of the open world racer.

OPM: PS4 racer Need For Speed Rivals feels like a something youve played before. That isnt surprising at all because whats happened here is that the most popular bits from the last few NFS games Hot Pursuits police chases and weapons, Most Wanteds asymmetrical multiplayer and so on have been cherry-picked and placed in a Paradise-like open world with a seamless multiplayer system called Alldrive that has six of you sharing the roads at once. And theres nothing wrong with that. Really.

TGH Writes: Start your engines and feel the adrenaline, cause Need For Speed: Rivals is here to give you a run for your money, even if that means going toe-to-toe with cops. Of course, Need For Speed has always had a rather strong run on the 7th generation of consoles especially with Burnout-famous Criteron coming aboard to command the series innovations. So, while this straddles both the current and the next-generation of consoles, its actually a perfect fit and figurehead for the future of the series on the newest consoles around.

Editing game properties tricks EA's racer into running at 60FPS flawlessly, video claims.
Community members frustrated by Need For Speed: Rivals' 30FPS frame rate lock have discovered a method to force the PC version into running at 60FPS.
According to a video posted by Pixel Enemy, the fix seems incredibly simple. All players need to do is right click the shortcut to the Need For Speed Rivals executable, select Properties, and add the following line to the end of the Target entry:
-GameTime.MaxSimFps 60 -GameTime.ForceSimRate 60+
VideoGamer.com has not been able to test the method to verify whether it actually works, but according to Pixel...

Need For Speed Rivals finds itself in the unenviable position of being a between-generation game that needs to be good enough to look next gen, but also not be so advanced that a version of it cant be released for the 360 and PS3.
